Did you know there are nine ways to reach first base?

Updated: Jan 14, 2022

I didn't until editor, agent, and speaker Bob Hostetler explained the ways at the Mid-south Christian Writers' Conference in Memphis this Saturday. Using the analogy of a baseball player to discuss ways for writers to get their work out, Bob's motivational talk inspired me to work harder to promote my writing.

"When you write for God, nothing is beneath you and nothing is beyond you," he said. He mentioned writing for magazines, blogs, devotionals, newspapers, contests, etc. I think I need to try some of these. How about you? He admonished his listeners to set goals, make a play, and stick to it.

I returned home tired but feeling the need to write, write, write. I'm working on some short stories and plan to enter some contests. That's my goal for this year. Who knows, I may even write a poem! I'm not much of a poet, but I did win an honorable mention on one last year at a writers' conference. Think I should try again?

This was a great conference and I hope to attend every year from now on. So many experienced writers, agents, and editors made themselves available to those of us who want to write. I gained knowledge on how to build a platform, how to build a website, and how to write children's books from qualified people. I have so much appreciation for those who gave their time and energy to teach and inform those of us who want to improve our craft. If you are a writer and haven't attended a writing conference, i highly recommend that you go to one.

By the way, what do you think of my updated website? I know I've been silent while my wonderful granddaughter worked on it for me, but I'm glad to be back. Love that young lady. Thank you, D.

Your website is great, MJ. You are so much more faithful about writing than I am. I need to get my pen out and get to work.
