Are you a Dandelion yet?

Updated: Jan 14, 2022

Considered a curse in the lawns, gardens and flower beds of many people, the bright little Dandelion preservers regardless of its circumstances. This hardy plant can be found growing in the cracks of sidewalks, in cow pastures, and in places where it is not wanted. So, what good is this persistent little plant?

It seems that the plant actually has many helpful and healthy attributes. The entire plant can be used for food and is good in salads, as greens, as dandelion flower fritters, made into dandelion wine, coffee and tea. It is known to promote digestion, aid in weight loss, helps prevent cancer, helps lower high blood pressure, aides in treating jaundice, and helps to cure acne. A list of those attributes can be found here.

That’s a lot for such a little, annoying weed which is really not a weed at all, but a flower. And a pretty little flower at that. So, what’s the lesson I learned from the dandelion? Consider this. A common little plant considered just an annoying weed by so many can benefit us so much if we would recognize and utilize its qualities. Not only that, but it sends its little seeds on the wind to reproduce itself over and over despite the hostility it faces daily.

We should be like the dandelion. We should grow persistently and quietly, lending our gentleness and beauty to our environment and sending out seeds to reproduce the love of Christ everywhere. We should be beneficial by adding joy and spreading kindness and goodness to everyone we meet. Our lives should add brightness to the darkest places as we persevere to grow in spite of hardness and conflict we face as followers of Christ. We must never grow only for those who recognize our goodness, but we must grow in places where our goodness is not yet recognized.

Are you a dandelion yet? It's time!
